Airgun Shooter 160 is out NOW

The latest issue of Airgun Shooter is now available!

Controlling grey squirrels is a job that needs to be done right through the year if you are going to make a dent in their numbers. The methods we use can vary from season to season, but there’s no denying that setting up a feeding station is one of the best whatever the time of year, so Mat Manning makes great use of these to keep the destructive greys in check.

Tom Claycomb III is used to hunting all sorts of quarry in his native United States, but this time he goes large and seeks out an axis deer with the help of the mighty Umarex Hammer in .50 calibre.

Mat’s been testing Brocock’s new Sahara XR, a lightweight and compact sidelever-operated semi-bullpup that sports a thumbhole stock. The stock’s made of a polymer and has a sand finish, along with an adjustable cheekpiece and butt pad, making it a very practical proposition.

Mike Morton delivers his verdict on the GX-L3, a portable air compressor that combines the convenience of a dive cylinder with the self-sufficiency of a stirrup pump. It’s light enough to be taken with you when you go shooting, and because it runs off batteries it doesn’t need to be plugged into a wall or vehicle socket.

Mike’s also been wondering whether a hybrid round that’s part hollowpoint and part pointed pellet can be truly accurate – and sets out in search of the truth by shooting the new Silver Star hybrid ammo from BSA. He also gives a rundown of some airgun terminology that can prove confusing for newcomers to the sport.

Springers aren’t the only alternative to pre-charged pneumatics and the associated inconvenience of having to ensure a ready supply of compressed air. Gas-rams are hardly new on the scene, but are still a more recent innovation, and Richard Saunders proceeds to put four of them through their paces.

All this is capped off with our Airgun Answers section in which we tackle your questions about how to tame runaway BBs and whether shot meat is safe for human consumption.
