New record set at Intershoot 2020

Medals were won and new British records set at Intershoot, the annual three-day competition for air rifle and pistol held in The Netherlands.

British athletes put on some fantastic performances at this year’s Intershoot contest, especially from the junior shooters, boding well for future Olympic and Commonwealth competitions.

The highlight on day one was England’s Joe Baker winning the Junior Men’s Pistol event and Scotland’s Emilia Faulkner winning the Junior Women’s, with Wales’s Lucy Thomas coming a close second. Emilia’s qualification score of 571 is also a new British record.

Day two saw Kristian Callaghan come seventh in the Senior Men’s Pistol contest. Emilia continued her top form to take the Junior Women Pistol title.  In the same event England’s Harriet Watson and Lucinda Evans came sixth and seventh, with Wales’s Lucy Thomas coming eighth.

Along with Maddy Barnes, the England shooters took the team Gold, and in doing so set a new GB record. The England Junior Men’s team of Joe Baker, Sam Allen and Jack Lovett took Silver.

The final day saw Emilia lose out on a Gold medal by just one point to take second place, with England’s Lucinda Evans in fourth and Wales’s Emily Shawyer and Lucy Thomas in fifth and seventh places. Joe Baker finished the day in second place.

And mention must be made of junior rifle shooter Harry Vincent, who is part of the GB Talent Squad, who made the final every day and finished with a Silver medal in the Team event along with Tom Warren and Max Dandeker-Bourne.
