Where to shoot airguns in the UK

Maybe you’re just getting into airgun shooting, or maybe you’ve already bought a rifle or pistol but are now unsure where you can go to shoot it. After all, not everyone has a suitable garden for plinking, and it can take time to secure a hunting permission. But help is at hand, with numerous ranges and training organisations all working to get you out of the house, shooting safely and having fun.

CRACKSHOT

Crackshot, near Newton Abbot in Devon, boasts three indoor shooting ranges to choose between, including a 20-metre air rifle range with a selection of card, spinning and knockdown targets. The BB rapid-fire pistol range is ideal for all types of BB guns, while the SimWay Hunt simulator lets you practise a vast array of shooting scenarios, including clay pigeon and wild boar.

The cost for using the range with your own gun is £10 an hour, including your targets – and air too if you shoot a PCP.  If you shoot between 9am-5pm Monday-Friday during school term time, Crackshot will double your time on the range. Air Arms PCPs with Hawke scopes are available to hire as well, including unlimited pellets. The BB range has a selection of Colt 1911s to use, with unlimited CO2 and BBs.

The cost for using the range with all items supplied and as much help as you need is £25 an hour, or £32 for 90 minutes.

HIGH LODGE

High Lodge, a premier sporting and leisure venue, is nestled among 120 acres of woodland and countryside on the Suffolk coast. It’s home to an array of first-class facilities, including luxury lodge accommodation, some with private hot tubs, world-class clay shooting, a nine-hole golf course, fishing and an inviting cafe.

Alongside these facilities, High Lodge also has an air rifle layout set in natural woodland, offering five ranges with field targets on each, which are set out at various distances. This gives shooters with their own air rifle the opportunity to come to High Lodge and practise – and it’s open seven days a week. If you do not own an airgun, High Lodge can provide individual air rifle instruction for groups of 10 people or more.

High Lodge is owned by 10-times Sporting World FITASC champion John Bidwell and his family, and is located just off the A12 near Darsham.
